Welcome

Welcome to the Norfolk Permaculture website. For those new to Permaculture the following pages will hopefully inspire you to explore a bit further. Learning about Permaculture can be a life changing experience. At it’s heart are a friendly and diverse range of people from all walks of life, sharing a common goal of living more sustainably by reconnecting with nature.  Permaculture focuses on solutions by observing and learning from natural systems.

The aim of this site is to pull together some of the various strands of local Permaculture and should be of interest to the experienced Permaculturalist as well as those who have just heard of it and want to know more. The format has been kept simple with the focus around the West Norfolk Permaculture Design Course.

There is a brief introduction to Permaculture, information on local courses, some resources to accompany the courses and some links for those who want to explore further. Check out the recent posts link for News, Events and Random Thoughts.

Hello, Lovely website! Are there any plans for a full PDC within Norwich? The West Norfolk one does look good but with no car and small children it’s a bit to difficult to arrange. Becky

  2. Ben Margolis says:

    Hi Becky,
We have had a few folks from Norwich do the course before and generally there have been enough people coming that we can make sure there is someone to offer lifts. Can’t help so much with the children although one baby did complete the course last year! Not sure of any immediate plans for a Norwich course although I know there are people working on it. Ben

  3. Anna says:

Are there any intro courses in the surrounds of Huntstanton, Norfolk PE36? And where is the PDC course happening?

    • Hi Anna

Don’t know of any intro courses around Hunstanton however the PDC is over your way. It is basically held at different locations each weekend – the intro is normally held at West Lexham which is near Castle Acre. The remaining venues are nearer Downham Market and Stoke Ferry. If you are interested contact Ben westnorfolkpdc@gmail.com or tel:01760 756029 and he will be able to give you more details.

      All the best

It would be great if you would like to provide a link to our website on your site. Please get in touch on above details if so. Many thanks

    • Hi Lilly

Good to hear from you. We had a group visit to the Apricot Centre last year and Marina showed us around your lovely site. Can thoroughly recommend it to anyone, especially those interested in growing fruit.

      Best wishes

I would to be part of the permaculture network. I’m looking for a course starting soon any where in norfolk

    • Hi Kate
There is a fairly loose permaculture network in Norfolk and I am sure you would be welcome along to anything that is happening. The main course is the West Norfolk Permaculture Design Course. This runs annually at present normally starting in April with one weekend a month through to September. If this is of interest please – have a look at the details on the website and drop us an email to register your interest. We can then get back to you with more details in due course. In addition to this there are occasional introduction weekends that happen through the year and if we get to hear of them we will try to include some details here. This year there was also a full residential PDC that has just finished. Do not know at this stage whether this will be repeated next year. Beyond this if you are prepared to travel further afield the best place to look for courses is The Permaculture Association website.

      Hope this is useful

A group of us are planning a city-wide seed swap at St. Lawrence’s Church on St. Benedict’s Street. It will be happening on Sunday March 8th between 11.00am-3.00pm. Entry will be free of charge.

We are contacting relevant organisations such as the Norfolk Permaculture to see whether you might be interested in having a presence on the day itself. We can provide you with a table and chairs (plus plenty of tea and coffee-making facilities).

We believe that this is the first time that a city-wide seed swap has been attempted and we hope that it will be a great success. It may also allow you to publicise your own group and recruit some new students for your classes.

Let us know what you think.

    Colin Hynson

  8. Hello Colin – this sounds like something that we would like to attend. Perhaps you could post a link to where we could get some more details.

    Thanks

Hi, my husband and I, both seasoned PDCers, will be visiting Brancaster in September. We live in the US. Are there any sites near Brancaster we could visit?
    Thanks.

    • Hi Cynthia

Sorry – can’t think of any Permaculture sites near Brancaster that you can visit, although I will ask around. When are you visiting? We have the UK national convergence in a couple of weeks near Oxford – I can make some further enquiries while there.

In the meantime have a good stay in Brancaster – lots of great walks and nature reserves in the area.

      All the best

      Paul

  11. Lizzie Debbage says:

    Hi,

I’m in Norwich and wanting to learn about permaculture. Are you still running the PDC courses? Would i need to complete an induction course before doing a PDC? Also are you aware of any local funding for permaculture courses?

    Many thanks,

    Lizzie

    • Hi Lizzie

Sorry not to have got back sooner – I have been away. There is one course that is regularly run normally during the summer – not sure if it will be running this summer (2020) however I will make some enquiries for you.

      Cheers

      Paul
